The School for Teaching and Memorizing the Holy Quran in Sana'a, in cooperation with the Secondary Schools for Sharia Sciences and Summer Programs, held its fourth annual honoring ceremony for 55 students of the “Martyr of the Quran” batch for the year 1447 AH.
During the ceremony, Grand Mufti of Yemen and Head of the Yemeni Scholars Association, Shamsuddin Sharafuddin, emphasized that honoring Quran memorizers coincides with ongoing desecrations of the Quran and Islamic sanctities by Zionists and Americans. He noted that the Muslim nation weakens when it distances itself from the Book of Allah, despite its large population, and supported the revolutionary leadership’s focus on returning people to the Qur’an and reviving the Quranic project.
Shamsuddin urged the government to ensure that learning and memorizing the Quran is not limited to specialized schools, but accessible to all, including students in higher education programs. He stressed that adherence to the Qur’an and its guidance is essential for nurturing future generations and protecting the nation’s values.
The school’s director, Ali Al-Dawla, described the Qur’an as “a light revealing truth, healing the blindness of hearts, and guiding generations toward civilization and knowledge.” He condemned distortions of the Quran by extremist groups and stated that attacks on the Quran by Jews and Americans stem from Muslims’ neglect of Quranic teachings.
Al-Dawla also detailed the students’ achievements:16 students completed memorization of the full Quran,11 students memorized 25–29 parts,13 students memorized 20–24 parts, 29 students memorized 15–19 parts,15 students memorized 10–14 parts, 29 students memorized 5–9 parts.
The ceremony was attended by Capital Governor Dr. Hamoud Abbad, Deputy Head of the Endowments and Guidance Authority Dr. Fouad Naji, Deputy Secretary of the Capital Khalid Al-Madani, and Undersecretary of Guidance at the Endowments Authority Mohammed Mani’a, as well as Yahya Sharaf, Head of the Higher Quran Academy, and Azzi Rajeh, Academy official.
